| Summary, etc. | Tomàs Garcés de ben petit fou amic de Joan Salvat-Papasseit, l'obra del qual el marcà profundament. Es llicencià en Dret i en Lletres a Barcelona. El 1919 fundà l'efímera revista Mar Vella i, posteriorment, col·laborà a La Publicitat, on signava sovint Ship-Boy. Fou un dels fundadors de Quaderns de Poesia. El seu primer llibre, Vint cançons (1922), amb pròleg de Carles Riba, fou una revelació. En esclatar la Guerra Civil espanyola fugí a França, on fou professor de castellà a la Universitat de Tolosa. Retornà a Catalunya el 1947. El 1992 li fou atorgada la Medalla d'Or al Mèrit Artístic de la Ciutat de Barcelona, i el 1993 el Premi d'Honor de les Lletres Catalanes.
