General note "Dins el tinter reivindica la correspondència familiar com a espai de memòria i font d'informació sobre les formes de sociabilitat i la vida privada i íntima. A partir de l'anàlisi de 1.500 cartes escrites per dones d’una trentena de famílies catalanes, entre 1750 i 1900, les autores de l’estudi tracen l'evolució dels costums i del pensament en aquest període històric. S’hi parla, entre altres temes, de l’autonomia de les dones, com van reaccionar a la laïcització de la societat o quin efecte va tenir sobre elles la industrialització i l'aparició de noves professions per als homes. L’estudi es completa amb els arbres genealògics de set de les famílies estudiades. Aquest volum és una valuosa contribució a la crònica social i cultural dels segles XVIII i XIX a Catalunya.
